About Alert Bay
Alert Bay is on Cormorant Island which is 4 km long, and about 1 km wide at its narrowest point. With its rich First Nations Culture, history of commercial fishing, multitude of trails and ocean vistas, Alert Bay is a unique tourist destination with something for almost everyone! The town centre consists of a grocery and hardware store, coffee shop, art gallery, restaurants, library, liqour store, post office and more ~ elsewhere on the island is the hospital and health clinic, gas station and the U'Mista Cultural Centre... a beautiful venue of first nations art, modern and ancient.
Situated in beautiful Alert Bay on Cormorant Island, one of BC's Northern Gulf Islands, Janet's Guest House is a breath of fresh air for anyone in need of a peaceful getaway.
There are several ways to get to Alert Bay: BC Ferries, our 2900 foot airstrip, as well as a full service Boat Harbour. The closest airport with regularly scheduled flights is Port Hardy, 30 minutes north of Port McNeill.
Things to Do
Exciting annual events include June Sports on Father's Day weekend; T'sasala Cultural Group Dance Performance in 'Namgis Traditional Big House July and August; Seafest, Musicfest, Artfest and the Salmon Run 5/10K the 4th weekend in July; Alert Bay 360 on the August BC Day weekend. A multitude of trails criss cross the island, leading to hours of exploration at any time.
